Diana Kasbaum was a fourth grade teacher at Eastside Elementary School and the District K-6 Mathematics Coordinator. She earned a B.S. in elementary education with concentration in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Aurora University. After 20 years in the classroom, Diana became a mathematics education consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction where she led statewide professional learning, curriculum development, revision and implementation of state standards and assessments, and school improvement. Throughout her career, Diana served as a member of several national committees: Early Mathematics Placement Test advisory board, Conference Board of Mathematical Sciences, Illustrative Mathematics Project advisory board, Mathematics Common Core Coalition, Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, National Assessment of Educational Progress item review, advisory board for PBS TeacherLine, and online facilitator for the Elementary School Mathematics and Algebraic Thinking Mathematics Projects. During her 40+ year career in education, Diana served as president of the Association of State Supervisors of Mathematics and president of the Wisconsin Mathematics Council. In addition to the 1999 PAEMST award, Diana was honored with the 2001 University of Wisconsin-Madison Distinguished Elementary Education Alumni Award and 2006 Wisconsin Mathematics Council Distinguished Mathematics Educator Award. Diana is currently the PAEMST national coordinator for the Association of State Supervisors of Mathematics, working with state and jurisdiction PAEMST coordinators and alumni representatives. In this role, she works closely with the National Science Foundation and its national PAEMST team to support the program.
