PAEMST represents our country’s need to value and focus on the importance of science and mathematics, not just in schools, but in our national consciousness. Honoring our science and math teachers also honors our math and science students, and the crucial role they take in formulating Americans' view of the world and our place in it.
Kevin Gant has taught science and mathematics for 18 years across a spectrum of classes from Algebra I to Chemistry to Advanced Placement Physics, with most of his career focusing on Physics education. In his most recent classroom work, he was a founder and the Lead Teacher at Nex+Gen Academy, a project-based public high school. There, he taught a senior-level Integrated Environmental Science and Statistics course from 2012–2015. Early in his career, Kevin embraced constructivism and project-based learning, serving as the physics teacher at New Technology High School in Napa, CA, a school at the vanguard of project-based learning instruction. That position led to his later work at the non-profit New Tech Network (NTN), serving as a school development coach, where he coached several nationally recognized high schools. Kevin has returned to NTN, presently designing training and support for grade level teams wishing to adopt the NTN model. Kevin has provided professional development and mentorship to teachers through various organizations, including the University of New Mexico, Sandia National Laboratories, and the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation. Kevin earned a B.S. in physics from the University of New Mexico, and is a National Board Certified Teacher in physics. He holds a New Mexico teaching license in high school science and mathematics.
