The Presidential Award is a great honor to me. Being recognized and rewarded at this level for mathematics instruction is a valued accomplishment as well as motivation to continue my knowledge of teaching math. I look forward to the opportunities it will provide for me to further my experience and involvement in mathematics education.

HollyDee Archuleta has been an educator for 14 years and has spent the last 4 years teaching first and second grade in the Meridian School District at Meridian Elementary School. The previous 10 years were spent teaching first through fourth grade in the Caldwell School District. All of her teaching experience has been in low socioeconomic Title 1 schools. Holly’s philosophy and love for teaching mathematics were empowered by a research project developed by Boise State University called Developing Mathematical Thinking. Her use of higher-level thinking skills and problem-solving techniques is the focus of creative mathematics instruction in her classroom. Holly has served on the State Board of Education Math Committee. The committee reviewed the Mathematics Common Core Standards, which are currently adopted by the State of Idaho. She has also served as a District Mentor Teacher for the Caldwell School District as well as a member of the Leadership Team at Meridian Elementary School. Holly has been a facilitator for Family Math Nights at her school, speaking to educate parents on the present changes in teaching mathematics. Holly has a B.A. in elementary education from Boise State University and is certified in kindergarten through eighth grade elementary education.
