Awardees and their guests (when invited) should plan to wear traditional business attire for most events, including visits to The White House. Cocktail evening attire is recommended for the Awards Ceremony. Traditional business or cocktail evening attire is recommended for the U.S. Department of State dinner. Attire for NSF Day is business casual.
Traditional Business Attire
Men: Suit and tie; blazer or sport jacket with slacks and tie
Women: Suit; skirt or slacks with a blouse; dress
No sandals or flip-flips are allowed at The White House.
Business Casual Attire
Men: Slacks or khakis with an oxford or knit shirt and appropriate shoes (no sneakers)
Women: Skirt or slacks with a blouse; dress
No shorts are allowed.
Cocktail Evening Attire
Men: Dark suit and a tie
Women: Dress; skirt or slacks with a blouse
While we have chartered buses, door to door service is not always available in Washington, DC. You may be required to walk a few blocks to various events.
