It is with great pride that I represent the dedicated and outstanding educators I have worked with through the years, as they have all played significant roles in shaping me into the teacher and the person I am today. The recognition from this award has already begun to open new doors for me professionally, and I know it is only the beginning. I look forward to an educational and inspirational week in Washington and am eager to connect, share, and learn with colleagues from across the country!
Stacie Broden has been teaching for more than 11 years at the Regional District 15 Pomperaug Elementary School. She currently teaches all subjects for the second grade. She is also a mathematics instructional leader for the school district and mathematics instructional coach for the Math and Science Partnership Program of the Connecticut State Department of Education.

Ms. Broden provides a structured, safe, and encouraging learning environment for students through positive reinforcement, clear expectations, tolerance training, and cooperative group models. She actively engages students in science and mathematics learning through concept-based instruction. She developed a class Web site that provides parents with helpful curriculum information, a monthly schedule of events, concept and skills reinforcement tips, and links to online resources for supplemental activities in all content areas.

Staff development is another of Ms. Broden's strengths. She provides staff development training to the entire faculty on questioning strategies, mathematics curriculum strands and assessments, and enrichment materials and Web sites. She has played an integral part in developing and supporting staff in providing successful mathematics parent nights.

Considered a master teacher and mentor, Ms. Broden works individually with teachers to support mathematics instruction. She has completed more than 100 hours of training in leadership and best practices for mathematics instruction.

A member of the school's Least Restrictive Environment Committee and District Math Curriculum Team, Ms. Broden has made presentations on performance-based learning, literacy, and Web sites to enhance instruction. She is currently working with a colleague on creating a teacher resource book on multiage team teaching that includes lessons, assessment lists, resources, and classroom and time management tips, with a goal of publication in 2010.

Ms. Broden has a B.A. in elementary and special education from the University of Delaware and an M.A. in special education, learning disabilities from Southern Connecticut State University. She is certified in elementary and special education.
