Travis Lemon has been teaching mathematics at American Fork Junior High School in Utah for seven years. A National Board Certified Teacher with certification in secondary mathematics education, he teaches algebra and pre-algebra for seventh through ninth graders.
Mr. Lemon is an exemplary mathematics teacher with a passion for helping students succeed in life. His goal is to empower students to achieve success despite the obstacles many of them have in their lives. He stands out as an example of both teaching excellence and sincere, committed effort to enhance student achievement. Mr. Lemon ignites in his students a love for mathematics. He involves students in creative ways to understand difficult concepts. Parents commend his practice of setting clear learning targets so that both parents and students can understand which mathematics concepts are to be learned during each unit. Parents and students alike are impressed with his use of “Learning Journals” for students to write down what they have learned and the key ideas behind each lesson.
Mr. Lemon shows a genuine concern for parents’ interests, feedback, and ideas for improvement. He constantly tries new methods and approaches to improve his own teaching and help the school as a whole. Mr. Lemon’s professional record shows service as the district algebra coordinator, member of the board of the Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics (UCTM), and chair of the accreditation team. Mr. Lemon is a recipient of the Innovations in Excellence Grant, Governor’s Excellence Award, and 100% for Kids Grant Award.
Mr. Lemon has a B.A. in mathematics education from Brigham Young University.
