The Presidential Award in teaching is equivalent to a Green Jacket in golf or the Lombardi Trophy in football. The award represents the best of the best in the fields of mathematics and science education. The Presidential Award would be the pinnacle of any career.
Tim Kenney has been an educator for 9 years and has spent the last 4 years teaching fifth grade mathematics at Mandarin Oaks Elementary in the Duval County School District. He has taught as an adjunct professor at the University of North Florida for the past 3 years.
Tim’s passion for students reaches to the community. Tim initiated content trainings for parents to help establish a foundation to help their children at home with mathematics. This program was used at several schools in the district.
With the financial support of an Intel grant, Tim used funds to produce mathematics toolkits. These kits contained mathematical manipulatives such as angle rulers, geoboards, pattern blocks, and numeral cards. The students had the opportunity to keep the kits at their home to assist with homework and the continuation of learning.
Tim helped establish a districtwide professional development organization dedicated to elementary mathematics. This organization promotes collegial dialogue and conversations among teachers. He served as its president for 4 years.
Tim has served as a member of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT 2.0) Content Advisory Committee.
Tim has a B.A. and M.Ed. in elementary education from the University of North Florida.
