I have had the honor of working with several Presidential awardees in my career. Each recipient has inspired me with their continued dedication to excellence and innovative approach to teaching. Winning this prestigious award is the highest honor that can be received and is reflective of the great work of all DoDEA teachers. I am humbled and honored by this celebration of excellence in mathematics instruction and look forward to the opportunities this award will bring.

Timothy Kelly has taught mathematics for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) for 10 years. His schools have included Bad Kreuznach American School, Bahrain School, and Baumholder High School. Prior to his time with DoDEA, Timothy worked at Canandaigua Academy in upstate New York.

As Baumholder High’s department chair, Timothy leads an acclaimed department focused on vertical teaming and using data to differentiate instruction. Under his leadership, Baumholder High School has added and sustained both Advanced Placement (AP) Statistics and AP Calculus. Timothy is a strong advocate for allowing all students into advanced mathematics classes, especially those coming from groups that have been underrepresented in the past. He is the Math Counts coach and serves on several school improvement committees.

Timothy was selected for DoDEA’s Assessment Task Group, Discrete Mathematics Textbook Selection Task Group, and Virtual School Algebra I Task Group. He has presented on the topics of cultivating a rigorous AP climate and vertical teaming to district administrators.

Timothy has a B.A. in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Geneseo and an M.S. in Education from Walden University. His certifications include mathematics, computer science, Educational Technologist, and Advancement Via Individual Determination.
