Steve Darg Roberts

Steve Roberts has been employed with Charles County Public Schools for nine years and is an exemplary teacher at Westlake High School in Waldorf, MD. He is chair of the mathematics department, serves on the school improvement team, and is a member of the curriculum writing team for mathematics. Under his leadership as department chair, students have continuously shown improvement on the Maryland State High School Assessment.

Mr. Roberts’s mentoring and tutoring have earned the high regard of colleagues, students, and parents. Colleagues praise his vast knowledge of mathematics and his commitment to providing the best education to each individual student regardless of ability. They consider him a valuable asset and appreciate his willingness to share instructional strategies. Students describe his class as informative, interesting, and fun. Parents consider themselves fortunate to have Mr. Roberts teach their children. He is credited with teaching students not just mathematics but also life lessons that students will always carry with them.

Mr. Roberts is described as the complete educator, excelling in the classroom and participating in school activities. His involvement ranges from being an announcer at home football games and wrestling tournaments to sponsor of the Student Government Association to coach of the wrestling team.

Continuously pursuing professional development opportunities, he has taken courses in Group Dynamics, Culture and Diversity, and Teaching Through Learning Channels, and he has participated in Cognitive Tutor trainings and Diversity and Blended Cultures training.

Mr. Roberts is certified to teach AP statistics and use the AP designation at the school by the College Board. He has an M.S. in curriculum and instruction from McDaniel College.
