Rebecca Darby has been a mathematics teacher at Central High School in Florence, AL, since 1988. Her teaching assignment currently includes algebra II, pre-calculus, and algebraic connections. She holds certifications in both Alabama Class A and B Secondary Mathematics.
Ms. Darby uses a variety of techniques and approaches to enhance her lessons, including computers, video projectors, document cameras, video clips, graphing calculators, and graphing software. She sets high standards for her classes and works hard to help students meet those standards. She encourages students’ mathematical communications skills by having them present their findings to the class. Under her guidance, Ms. Darby’s students work together in cooperative groups. When presented with the challenging and daunting task of teaching an inclusion algebra class, Ms. Darby has been able to meet the educational needs of each student.
Ms. Darby is described as a dedicated professional who serves as a positive role model for her students. Parents applaud her for preparing their children for future endeavors in the workplace, and colleagues praise her for aspiring to transfer her love of mathematics to her students.
Ms. Darby has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in secondary mathematics/computer science education from the University of North Alabama. She is a member of the Lauderdale County, AL, and National Education Associations as well as the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
