I am tremendously honored and humbled to even be considered for the Presidential Award. I never dreamed that I could accomplish recognition of this magnitude simply by doing what I love to do. This honor is an acknowledgment of all of the wonderful mentors and colleagues who inspire me each and every day to selflessly give of myself, to strive for excellence, and to help in guiding my students to build a better future for themselves. I see this award as my opportunity to pay it forward.
Paige Falcon has taught mathematics at Terrytown Elementary School in Jefferson Parish for 16 years. She currently serves her school as a Title I Extension Teacher, Mathematics Facilitator, Technology Coordinator, and National Junior Honor Society sponsor. Currently, Paige teaches fourth grade language arts and mathematics. She spends part of every day modeling mathematics and technology integration in first through fifth grade, where she provides resources and professional development. This allows her to cultivate a schoolwide love of mathematics and encourage the use of hands-on, real-world activities.
Paige enthusiastically believes in teaching the student, not just the curriculum. She accomplishes this feat by actively engaging her students in real-world problem solving and critical-thinking activities designed to help them make connections between important ideas in mathematics and the world in which they live. Her professional affiliations include the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Louisiana Teachers of Mathematics, and Greater New Orleans Teachers of Mathematics.
Paige has a B.S. in education from Louisiana State University. She is certified in first through eighth grade elementary education. She is a National Board Certified Middle Childhood Generalist.
