Being selected as a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching would be the highest honor I can think of as an educator. This award allows the opportunity to share with educators from across the United States my passion for mathematics education. Students deserve the very best from their teachers each and every day, and this process has been an example for my students that I believe in doing my personal best and they too can achieve their highest dreams.
Paige Bergin has taught fifth grade mathematics for 9 years at Jarman Elementary in the Union Public School District.
Paige’s leadership capacity is seen through her implementation of professional learning communities and book studies with the Oklahoma State Department of Education Master Teacher Project. As the Technology Organizer for her site, she trains colleagues to use online grading systems and SMART Boards.
As a recipient of Funds for Teachers, donorschoose.org, and district grants, Paige has implemented programs that would not otherwise be possible. Her commitment to providing the best experience for her students and her enthusiasm is seen by anyone who talks with her about integrating mathematics and technology.
Paige’s love of mathematics extends beyond her classroom; she is an instructor for the annual Oklahoma State Department of Education Math Academy. This educator institute shares hands-on lessons that increase students’ depth of knowledge.
Paige has a B.S. in early childhood education from Oklahoma State University and an M.Ed. in educational administration and curriculum supervision from the University of Oklahoma. Her certification areas include prekindergarten through eighth grade and middle school, as well as National Board Certification and elementary principal certification.
