Nancy Sue Kent

White River Junction, VT

Nancy Kent has been teaching mathematics at Hartford High School in White River Junction, VT, for 17 years. She holds certification in both secondary education mathematics and computer science and teaches algebra, advanced algebra 1 and 2, and AP calculus 1 and 2.

Ms. Kent is continually praised for the countless hours she spends in preparation and earns praise for her organizational skills and effectiveness as a teacher. Both students and faculty respect her work and hold her in high regard. She maintains excellent relationships with her students.

Ms. Kent’s school contributions include chairing the Hartford High School technology committee and representing the school on the district technology committee. She served in both capacities for a 15-year period. Other activities include stints as junior varsity basketball coach, senior mathematics team coach, and Webmaster for the school’s Web site.

Her list of professional development activities includes dozens of workshops and trainings on such diverse topics as Fractions Without Fear, Test Design for Local Assessment and Calibrating, and Using the SMART Board in Your Classroom. Her professional activities include membership in the National Education Association and a presenter of workshops sponsored by the Vermont Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Ms. Kent received the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Battelle Fellowship Award four years in a row. For three years she was the school’s teacher leader for the Vermont Mathematics Partnership.

A National Board Certified Teacher, Ms. Kent has a B.S. in secondary education/mathematics (magna cum laude) from the University of Vermont and has taken additional courses at Castleton College and Johnson State College.
