Michael J Bowman has been teaching at Madison High School in Marshall, NC, for 14 years. He teaches chemistry, physics, and physical science. He has conducted new teacher workshops on classroom management, time management, and lesson planning, and he served as a lead mentor to new teachers. He also designed a new science wing for the high school. Dr. Bowman additionally serves as an adjunct physics professor at Western Carolina University.
Dr. Bowman is known as a teacher who welcomes parents in the classroom, and students are eager to share Dr. Bowman’s class with their parents. He spends time with students before and after class. Students are enthusiastic about what they learn in his science classes and appreciate the many hands-on opportunities they have to apply science principles. Students respect his well-rounded views and approach to teaching. Dr. Bowman is also highly respected by his peers and administrators.
Dr. Bowman has received the National Association of Geology Teachers Scholarship, Madison High School Classroom Distinction Award, and Madison County School Brilliance in Teaching Scholarship. He also received the Western North Carolina Creative Teacher of the Year Award.
Dr. Bowman holds National Board Certification in physics and a North Carolina certificate in general science (all sciences). He has a B.A. in geology from Augustana College; an M.S. in geophysics from Purdue University; an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction, science education from the University of Houston; and an Ed.D. in educational leadership from Western Carolina University.
