I became an educator not only to teach my students mathematics and how it plays a role in all facets of our lives, but also to help them become productive members of their community. I see myself as a teacher, a role model, and a friend to each of them. Simply being nominated for the Presidential Award was verification that I have been an effective teacher and am having a positive impact in my students’ lives. It is an honor to be considered alongside so many great teachers.

Mark Geiger has taught mathematics at Lacey Township High School for the past 14 years. Previously, he conducted his student teaching at Robinson School in Condado, Puerto Rico.

Mark’s current assignment includes teaching Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus BC, AP Calculus AB, Calculus Honors, and Algebra 1. He is also currently the Math Team Advisor, Freshman Class Advisor, Assistant Girls Varsity Soccer Coach, and chair of the Lacey Township High School Professional Development Committee. He is a member of the School Improvement Committee and is part of Lacey’s suicide prevention program as a Yellow Ribbon Teacher.

Mark’s commitment to his students and education is evident in the classroom environment he creates each year and in the programs and activities in which he is involved. He is consistently looking for new and innovative ways to teach mathematics in order to make it relevant and to connect to each of his students. He is also involved with mentoring and educating his fellow teachers, passing on his experience and ideas for the betterment of the entire school community.
