Louis Lindly Broad

Plaistow, NH

Louis Lindly Broad has taught both physics and chemistry at Timberlane Regional High School in Plaistow, NH, for 14 years. He was a school leader for team-taught interdisciplinary courses; some courses for which he has been a team teacher are Physics and Algebra and Humanity and the Cosmos. Mr. Broad serves as the high school’s robotics advisor.

Mr. Broad is able to take difficult concepts and relate them to things high school students can understand. Students in his classes have respect for him, and they come away with a love and greater understanding of science. His teacher colleagues see him as a caring mentor, professional model, and genuine inspiration; he is seen as an effective educator with a responsibility toward his students. Mr. Broad has also involved the community in science courses, developing partnerships with local businesses in order to provide funding and additional expertise for the student robotics team.

Mr. Broad has received grants to honor his use of amateur radio in the classroom and a Toyota Tapestry Grant, and he was co-awarded a GTE/Verizon Grant Growth Initiative for Teachers.

Mr. Broad has State certification in physics and chemistry. He has a B.A. in chemistry and physics teaching from the University of New Hampshire; he has completed graduate credits towards an M.A. in teaching, also from the University of New Hampshire.
