Linda Hutchinson has taught mathematics for nearly 24 years. For the past two years she has taught at Shadle Park High School in Spokane, WA. She teaches AP calculus AB and serves as an Instructional Mathematics coach and chair of the mathematics department.
Ms. Hutchinson demonstrates deep content knowledge and is a master of effective instructional design and delivery. Her lessons are student-centered, constructivist in nature, and include high cognitive command. She consistently provides a rigorous, relevant, and challenging program for her students. One hundred percent of her students met the AP calculus test standard last year. Parents praise her commitment to helping students learn, and she has inspired students to pursue careers in teaching high school mathematics.
Ms. Hutchinson models best practice using her classroom as a demonstration site and effectively leads the mathematics staff through reflective dialogues about their own instructional practice. Each day she can be found in a teacher’s classroom, modeling, coaching, team teaching, and reinforcing. She holds her staff accountable for constant improvement in their instructional practices.
Ms. Hutchinson has served on numerous committees and informal educational groups. Currently a member of the CorePlus Cadre, she has been involved with the Calculus Interest Group, SHAPes Steering Committee, and Technology Committee. Ms. Hutchinson has taken advantage of professional growth opportunities, participating in workshops, retreats, and training. Most recently she attended Assessment for Learning, Monitoring Matters, and High School Instructional Coaches Training.
Ms. Hutchinson is the recipient of the Spokane School District Distinguished Educator Team Award and the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year.
She has a B.A. in mathematics from Washington State University and an M.Ed. from Whitworth College.
