Receiving this award is a true honor. It confirms that a little girl’s dream to be a great math teacher is a big dream that can be realized. I am excited to have the opportunity to meet and share ideas with so many talented teachers. I am also grateful to all of the people who have been my mentors and friends as I have traveled through the years, growing and reflecting as a teacher. Most of all, I am thankful for my students, who surprise and amaze me every day.

Kimberly Burton-Regulski has taught Mathematics and Computer Science at Eastern Technical High School, a Baltimore County public school, for 12 years. For the past 6 years, Kimberly has been the Mathematics Department Chair. She enjoys mentoring teachers and providing professional development for the department. She encourages mathematics teachers to share ideas and collaborate with each other.

In the classroom, Kimberly incorporates discovery and cooperative activities, allowing her students to take ownership of their learning. She uses a variety of technologies to increase her students’ interest, such as SMART Boards, wikis, and graphing calculators.

During the summer, Kimberly works with students in a program that she developed to provide students with a head start for their next mathematics class and at an engineering camp for female middle school students that introduces them to Eastern’s engineering program.

In 2004, Kimberly was the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics Teacher of the Year.

Kimberly has a B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Secondary Education from Towson University. She also has a B.S. and a master's degree in Information Technology from Stevenson University. She is a certified secondary mathematics teacher.
