Kim Knighton

Kim Knighton, a high school mathematics teacher at Profile School in Bethlehem, NH, has been teaching in the White Mountain School Administrative Unit #35 for 15 years and has served as coordinator of the mathematics department. She currently teaches advanced placement statistics, contemporary math, and geometry.

Ms. Knighton prepares lessons that create a learning environment that fosters critical thinking and activity-based learning. She balances student-centered and teacher-centered instruction and incorporates differentiated instruction. She is not satisfied unless all her students show a true understanding of the material.

Colleagues attest to Ms. Knighton’s passion for mathematics and her positive influence on the school’s atmosphere. She is respected as a leader in the school, mentoring beginning teachers and serving as a role model through her attitude, work ethic, and dedication to raising student achievement. Ms. Knighton uses prep time to tutor students and remains after school every day to help students. She focuses on at-risk students to enable them to obtain their graduation requirements.

From 2002 to 2004 Ms. Knighton served on the district’s Mathematics Action Team to evaluate and revise the Algebra 1 and Geometry curriculum. In addition, she worked with Larson Texts, Inc., from 2002 to 2006. Her assignments included co-writing the Concentrate On! Workbook Series, designing and delivering workshops for teachers in Texas and Virginia, and writing supplementary materials for textbooks.

Ms. Knighton is certified to teach grades seven through twelve mathematics. She has a B.A. (magna cum laude) in administrative science with a minor in quantitative methods from Colby College. She has earned 35 postgraduate credits and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
