Jennifer Lynn Coughlin

Albuquerque, NM

Jennifer Lynn Coughlin teaches analytical chemistry and analytical physics at Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, NM. She has taught for eleven years, serving in her current position for six years. She serves as the coordinator of the annual Rube Goldberg Physics event and has previosly taught chemistry, biology, geology, forensic science, and physics at Bernalillo High School, also in New Mexico.

Ms. Coughlin is highly regarded and respected by her peers. She recently completed a fellowship in Washington, DC, as an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator in the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science. She continues researching with the Office of Science at Berkeley National Labs each summer. She also serves as a U.S. Department of Education Teacher-to-Teacher corps member, providing professional development across the country.

Students consider Ms. Coughlin passionate, creative, and effective and believe she promotes enthusiasm in her classes. Her teaching prepares students to pursue advanced science courses at the high school and college level. Even students who do not pursue science believe she helps them master other content material with the lessons she has taught them, making science accessible for everyone.

Ms. Coughlin has been selected by students as Eldorado High School’s “Best of the Best” for six years. She received Sandia Laboratories’ Excellence in Science Teaching award and was a Dream Grant Recipient. She has also been awarded a Fulbright-Hays Grant and a National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Teachers Grant.

Ms. Coughlin holds a certification in secondary science and athletic coaching. She has a B.S. in chemistry with an emphasis in biochemistry from the University of San Francisco. She has also taken courses in the School of Education at Centenary College and the University of New Mexico.
