George Robert (Bob) King

Lebanon, TN

Bob King is a 17-year veteran teacher of mathematics and science. For the past 2 years he has taught mathematics at Friendship Christian High School in Lebanon, TN. His classes include algebra, pre-calculus, and eighth- and tenth-grade physical science. He holds certifications in mathematics and data processing.

His colleagues credit him with improved student achievement. He is highly regarded for his ability to address the multiple levels of mathematics required for students in different grades. Mr. King has the intelligence and ability to challenge the most gifted students as well as the patience and creativity to stimulate learning-disabled students. His students gain an exemplary knowledge of mathematics due to his teaching skills, and they are inspired to achieve not only for the moment but for a lifetime.

Mr. King coaches in mathematics-intensive topics for the number two Science Olympiad team in the State, and helped work with the school’s first mathematics team. Mr. King met with scientists at the Tsunami Center and later developed a trigonometry-related lesson on tsunamis. He has served as a State trainer for Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) and a representative for the Center of Excellence of Mathematics and Science Education at international GLOBE meetings. He has developed online activities using authentic research with scientists at Deep Earth Academy (Consortium for Ocean Leadership) and with polar scientists.

Mr. King received the Ptero Award from the Tennessee Earth Sciences Teachers as well as the Unsung Hero Award for making a difference in students’ lives.

Mr. King has a B.A. in mathematics from Vanderbilt University and an M.A. and Teaching Certification from Tennessee Tech University. He subsequently completed more than 50 additional hours of graduate coursework.
