Fostering a passion for mathematics in young learners is my daily goal. The Presidential Award not only validates my efforts as an educator, but also drives me to further inspire my eager mathematicians. I am humbled to be included among so many exemplary educators. I feel fortunate to teach in a community that supports growth in technology and innovative teaching styles, and where students push themselves to achieve their personal best.

Elizabeth Hudgins has taught fifth and sixth grade mathematics to fifth graders at Eanes Elementary in the Eanes Independent School District for the past 5 years. Prior to that, she taught fourth and fifth grade for 4 years at Liberty Elementary in the Lewisville Independent School District.

Elizabeth serves as Unit Leader for fifth grade at Eanes Elementary and as a Math Coordinator at the district level. She helps align curricula and creates scope and sequence, pacing guides, and rubrics. Elizabeth also mentors student teachers, serves on her district's Professional Learning Steering Committee, and coordinates a 3-day, 2-night camping trip for Eanes Elementary fifth graders to strengthen cooperation and teamwork.

Eager to share her knowledge of technology, Elizabeth trains teachers in the use of SMART Boards and SMART Notebook software. Elizabeth had the opportunity to pilot SMART Sync software for her district and was lent a SMART Table for several weeks by a local provider.

Awards Elizabeth has received include Lewisville Independent School District First Year Teacher of the Year and Eanes Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Elizabeth has a B.S. in education from the University of North Texas. She is certified in elementary education and middle school reading.
