Debra Neal Madjlesi is a biology teacher at Corinth High School in Corinth, MS. She teaches biology and AP biology. She has taught human anatomy and physiology and taught at the elementary and junior high school level. She has been in her current position for 10 years. Ms. Madjlesi is the science department chairman and a member of the Faculty Honors Committee. She serves as the Science Club sponsor, a remedial tutor for life sciences, and an Academic Team coach.
Ms. Madjlesi is known for caring for her students and doing what is best for them. She has the respect of her students, their parents, fellow teachers, and education administrators. She uses artistic and creative means for teaching, such as a comic book for learning the muscle groups for anatomy and physiology. She has been active in Girl Scouting for many year and is active in tutoring programs available to students in the community. Ms. Madjlesi also teaches at the Mississippi Community College Foundation in the alternative route teacher certification program.
Ms. Madjlesi has been named as the National Association of Biology Teachers Outstanding Biology Teacher for Mississippi, State Science Teacher’s Association Outstanding High School Science Teacher, and Corinth High School Teacher of the Year, and has also been named four times as the STAR teacher at the school. (The STAR teacher is chosen by the student with the highest ACT score as the most influential teacher in his or her school career.)
Ms. Madjlesi holds National Board Certification in Adolescent/Young Adult Science. She has a B.S. in biology/microbiology from the University of Memphis and an M.Ed. in biology education from the University of North Alabama.
