Deborah Sue Teuscher teaches earth space science, grades 10–12, at Pike High School in Indianapolis, IN. Ms. Teuscher has been a teacher for 22 years; she has taught at Pike High School for 20 years. During her tenure at Pike High School, she has also taught integrated chemistry and physics. She currently serves as the school’s Planetarium Director, the Brain Game cosponsor, Astronomy Club advisor, and district Science Coach.
Mrs. Teuscher is known for her dedication to her students, other teachers, and the school. Her passion for astronomy is revealed in her student-centered planetarium lessons and activities that engage the students and community alike. She has developed integrated lesson plans based on grade-level standards for students K–12 for the planetarium. Working with other subject teachers in English, chemistry, and social studies, she also has developed lesson plans that integrate science concepts into other content areas. Her students work to achieve the excellence expected of them. Ms. Teuscher earned State certification to serve as a mentor for new teachers; she provides professional development seminars to teachers, staff, and administrators in the school district.
Mrs. Teuscher received the Above and Beyond Award from the Municipal School District of Pike Township in 2006. During the 2000-2001 school year, she served as Teacher in Residence for the College of Education at Butler University. In 1995, she was Pike's Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Teuscher holds certifications in earth space science, biology, physical science, and general science. She has a B.S. from Bluffton College and an M.S. in education from Purdue University.
