Carrie Jo Newdigger teaches anatomy and physiology, applied biology, biology, chemistry, and physical science at Macksville High School in Macksville, KS.

Ms. Newdigger has been teaching at the high school for 13 years. She serves as a Science Bowl Coach for the students.

Ms. Newdigger receives praise from teachers, parents, administrators, and former students. Students feel she brings fun and enthusiasm into the science classroom. She integrated food into the classroom for lessons, which helped the students relate more to what they were doing and provided a lasting memory of the lesson. She allowed students to contribute to the class in ways that suited them best. Former students believe they are far ahead of other college students in science because of her outstanding instruction. Administrators and other teachers enjoy working with her, including in team teaching efforts, because of her ability to relate science concepts to real-life experiences.

Ms. Newdigger was named the school district's Teacher of the Year in 2001. She also received a University of Kansas Teacher Recognition Award.

Ms. Newdigger holds certifications in biology, chemistry, and general science. She has a B.S. in biology education from Missouri Southern State University and an M.S. in biology from Emporia State University.
