My education has been shaped by several excellent high school teachers in various disciplines. I am a proud product of public education, and I strive to continue the enthusiasm and excellence in teaching that I was blessed with as a student. Winning this award is a testament to their dedication, and it makes me want to continue to strive for excellence for my students. Providing my students with a quality education that is technologically current is priceless.
Becky Piscitella has been an educator for 11 years, teaching Trigonometry, Statistics, and Integrated Mathematics primarily to 11th grade students at Richland Jr./Sr. High School in Johnstown, PA. She also taught seniors Pre-calculus and taught Applied Mathematics to grades 9-10.
Becky serves as a technology resource individual for her mathematics colleagues by participating in the Classrooms for the Future Technology Grant. As she incorporates new technology into her classes, she helps fellow teachers implement more technology in their courses. She also presented an integration of technology session at the 2008 Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Math Conference.
The statistics research project that Becky created is popular throughout the high school, as all grades participate in online surveys. To further integrate technology, each statistics group ends the project with a digital presentation of their results.
Becky’s love of teaching and dedication to the profession has prompted her to mentor four student teachers.
Becky has a B.S. in Secondary Mathematics Education, a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, and a minor in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, and she has a master's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
