Anne Keith, a mathematics teacher at Chief Joseph Middle School in Bozeman, MT, has been teaching for 15 years. She has worked in the Bozeman Public School District for the past eight years as a mathematics teacher and principal. She is currently a member of the school’s mathematics department and has taught mathematics, accelerated mathematics, social studies, and reading.
Ms. Keith’s knowledge of learning styles and her ability to adapt allow her to reach special needs students who struggle and challenge gifted students. Through her preparation, classroom structure, and genuinely caring demeanor, she provides each student with the opportunity to excel. Parents often request that their child be placed in Ms. Keith’s classes.
Ms. Keith has organized a mathematics “lunch bunch.” Through these sessions, students not only achieve more in mathematics, they learn the value of teamwork and sustained effort. To help parents understand what their child is learning, Ms. Keith created a family math night where parents experience a math lesson, working cooperatively with their child.
Ms. Keith received the National Council of Mathematics FLAMES award in 2003 and twice won the Gold Star Award for Excellence in Education from a local TV station. She achieved National Board certification in November 2007.
Ms. Keith is certified to teach all kindergarten through eighth grade (K–8) subjects and also holds a K–8 administrative credential. She has a B.A. (with high honors) in economics with a minor in mathematics from Rutgers University, and an M.Ed. from Montana State University.
