I believe the Presidential Award is a recognition given to teachers who integrate best practice, enjoyment of the content, and a love of learning into their instruction. They strive to make a difference in the lives of their students on a daily basis. This award serves as a reminder that the effort that teachers put into their work truly makes a difference in the lives of their students. It is a prestigious award that I would be honored to receive.

Angie McCune began her teaching career in August 2003 at West Elementary School and has taught there for the past 8 years. She has spent 7 years teaching in a self-contained third grade classroom and 1 year teaching fourth grade language arts.

Angie’s instructional approach to mathematics includes the use of cooperative learning. Students are immersed in rich vocabulary and are expected to explain their mathematical thinking and reasoning. The integration of science is also a key component to Angie’s mathematics instruction. She also cosponsors a robotics club.

Angie extends her strengths in mathematics and technology to the professional level. She teaches online courses for Baker University’s Continuing Education program. She is a part of the Project RENEW Math Leadership Academy through Kansas State University. The goals of this program are to foster mathematics leadership skills in teacher leaders, provide deep content area professional development to teachers in mathematics and science instruction, and provide teachers with the skills to sustain mathematics reform models.

Angie has a B.S. in elementary education and an M.S. in instructional design and technology from Emporia State University. She is a certified elementary school teacher.
